The Magnificent One

(1973)Directed by Philippe de Broca95 minComedy, Romance, Action, Adventure
“THE WRITER'S DREAM, HIS REALITY, AND THE TYPEWRITER IN-BETWEEN”

In 1973 Paris, François Merlin (Jean-Paul Belmondo) writes cheap spy novels starring Bob Saint-Clar, a secret agent who looks a lot like François and gets every girl. His publisher wants the new one by the deadline, and his English neighbor Christine (Jacqueline Bisset) is the model for the heroine. Philippe de Broca stages the writing as slapstick, with Bob's adventures spilling into the room where François sits typing, hopelessly smitten with her.
