The Maias: Story of a Portuguese Family

Carlos da Maia (Graciano Dias), an aristocratic doctor, fills his idle days with friends and lovers beside João da Ega (Pedro Inês), a close friend who is said to be a brilliant writer. Then he meets Maria Eduarda (Maria Flor), and a sudden passion pulls him somewhere darker than the gloom he was born into. João Botelho adapts the Eça de Queirós novel, and Carlos stands at the center of it, a man whose life follows the slow fortunes of Portugal.
