The Makioka Sisters

Every spring the four Makioka sisters travel to Kyoto to watch the cherry blossoms, and the family's Osaka household turns out in kimono to go with them. Kon Ichikawa follows them through the seasons of the years before the war, with Tsuruko (Keiko Kishi) and Sachiko (Yoshiko Sakuma) keeping the old family name in order. Yukiko (Sayuri Yoshinaga), the third sister, is still unmarried, and Taeko (Yuko Kotegawa), the youngest, does not wait for anyone's approval.
