The Maltese Falcon

(1941)Directed by John Huston100 min · PGMystery, Crime, Thriller
“He's a Killer When He Hates!”

Sam Spade (Humphrey Bogart), a private detective, wants a steady fee and a clear sense of who he is working for. Then Brigid O'Shaughnessy (Mary Astor) walks in with a story, and Joel Cairo (Peter Lorre) follows with a different one, both circling a priceless statuette. John Huston, in his first film as director, keeps nearly everyone in the film lying, and Spade has to work out what honesty is worth in a case like this.
