“One guy walks the walk. The other talks and talks. Only one of them can be…”

Detroit is where the agent's former partner turns up dead, and where Derrick Vann (Samuel L. Jackson), a federal agent, goes looking for answers. A sting operation goes sideways when Andy Fiddler (Eugene Levy), a dental supply salesman, is mistaken for the man Derrick is meant to meet. Les Mayfield puts the two in one car and keeps them talking, and Derrick has to work the case with a stranger he never chose.
