“Guinness is Back...Working Wonders With Wile, Whimsey and Wit!”

In a British textile mill town in 1951, Sidney Stratton (Alec Guinness) slips into the factory labs and works at his apparatus until he produces a fabric that never gets dirty and never wears out. Alexander Mackendrick follows him as he tries to sell it, with Daphne Birnley (Joan Greenwood) on his side. Sidney wants only to see it on the market, while the clothing trade stands to lose everything if one suit lasts a lifetime.
