Harold Pelham (Roger Moore) is a successful London executive who wants nothing more than his orderly life to go on exactly as it is. A serious car accident puts him close to death, and he recovers against the odds. Basil Dearden follows him home to a life that no longer seems to belong to him, as acquaintances such as Tony Alexander (Anton Rodgers) speak of things Harold has no memory of doing.
