The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance

(1962)Directed by John Ford123 min · PG-13Western
“Together for the first time”

Ransom Stoddard (James Stewart), a lawyer turned senator, comes back to a small Western town for the funeral of a rancher named Tom Doniphon (John Wayne), and the people there want to know why a man of his standing came so far. The answer goes back to Stoddard's first days in town, when Liberty Valance (Lee Marvin) and his crew beat him and left him in the road. John Ford shot it in black and white, and the last thing we see of Doniphon is a plain pine coffin.
