The Man Without a Past

A man (Markku Peltola) steps off a train in Helsinki and is beaten almost to death by thugs, then wakes with no memory of who he is. He starts over at the bottom, sleeping in a shipping container, taking up with a moody dog, and eating at a Salvation Army soup line run by Irma (Kati Outinen). Aki Kaurismäki sets the two of them side by side, a man with no past and a woman who keeps her own feelings tucked away, moving toward each other very slowly.
