Sigimond Pons (Joe Dallesandro) leaves his wife and young son at their country home and takes a business trip to Paris, and the reason he goes there is not the one he gave. In the city he meets Diana (Sylvia Kristel), a call girl, and the bond between them turns sexual and then reaches past the sexual into the spiritual. Borowczyk shoots the Paris rooms and streets slowly and close up, so the film plays out in the grain of the image.
