The Mark of Zorro
“Here's the picture in which the world's greatest exponent of good cheer and humor gives you a genuine riot of fun and thrills-pep and action-comedy-love-guaranteeing to drive away all your blues.”
Don Diego Vega (Douglas Fairbanks) wants the people of old California to see him as a bored, lazy fop, because that is the only way he can move among them as the masked avenger Zorro. Fred Niblo directs this 1920 silent, adapted from Johnston McCulley's story, with Noah Beery as the sergeant Gonzales. It is a film about a man who hides his strength behind a harmless face.
