Don Diego Vega (Tyrone Power) comes home to California from Spain and finds his father's land under the thumb of a dictator. In company he plays the idle fop, all lace and yawns, while after dark he rides out as the masked Zorro. Rouben Mamoulian sets Linda Darnell and Basil Rathbone around him, and Diego keeps both faces going without ever letting one slip into the other.
