The Master

“Haunted by his past, a World War II veteran crosses paths with a mysterious movement called The Cause.”

It is the years just after the Second World War, and Freddie Quell (Joaquin Phoenix), a Navy veteran who drinks whatever he can mix, drifts from one job to the next. He stows away on a ship belonging to Lancaster Dodd (Philip Seymour Hoffman), who leads a movement called The Cause and takes Freddie in as family. Paul Thomas Anderson follows Freddie as he travels with the Dodds, a man with no home who badly wants to belong.
