A hacker known online as Neo (Keanu Reeves) keeps getting messages he can't explain, all pointing him toward a man named Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne). Lana and Lilly Wachowski send him from a dull office life into a world he has no name for, one where the people hunting him wear identical suits. The one who finds him first is Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss), and the film turns on whether Neo can trust her.
