Zion, the last human city, sits underground while an army of machines closes in above it. Lana and Lilly Wachowski pick up the war with Neo (Keanu Reeves) cut off from the others, fighting on a separate front against the rogue Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving). Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) and Niobe (Jada Pinkett Smith) hold the city's defense, and if Neo fails, the humans of Zion are finished.
