A music journalist, Myles Clarkson (Alan Alda), was a pianist once, and he can't explain how he now plays like a virtuoso overnight. It starts when the dying concert pianist Duncan Ely takes sudden interest in his hands, and his wife Paula (Jacqueline Bisset) grows wary of how close the two men become. Paul Wendkos keeps her watching from the edges of the house while she tries to work out what is being taken from her marriage.
