The Monk

In Spain, in a Capuchin monastery, Frère Ambrosio (Vincent Cassel) is a monk whose sermons draw crowds and whose virtue no one questions. Then a young novice, Valerio (Déborah François), joins the order, and Dominik Moll follows Ambrosio's slide toward sin and depravity, adapting Matthew Lewis's 1796 gothic novel. We last see Ambrosio in his plain cell, the cassock he has always worn still on him.
