Five hundred years after the Havoc in Heaven, the Tang Priest is sent west by Buddha to fetch the sacred scriptures. Along the way he accidentally frees the Monkey King (Aaron Kwok Fu-shing), and Lady White (Gong Li) sets out to break up the band of travelers gathering to stop her. Soi Cheang's story is about loyalty, and whether a fighter who answers to no one can learn to stand with others.
