The Mother

May (Anne Reid) has just buried her husband Toots (Peter Vaughan) when she begins an affair with Darren (Daniel Craig), a man half her age who is also sleeping with her daughter Paula (Cathryn Bradshaw). Roger Michell, working from a Hanif Kureishi script, keeps the story close to May's own dealings with the family around her. She is a widow in her sixties, learning what she still wants and what it will cost her to take it.
