The Mourning Forest

At a retirement home, an elderly man named Shigeki (Shigeki Uda) keeps heading for the forest, searching for a trace of his dead wife that he cannot explain. Machiko (Machiko Ono), a young care worker still grieving her child, takes him out on a drive, and the two end up stranded in the trees. Naomi Kawase sets them side by side, a man with dementia and a woman who has lost a son, each carrying a loss the other can feel.
