The Munekata Sisters

Setsuko Munekata (Kinuyo Tanaka) has settled into a marriage with Mimura, an unemployed engineer who drinks, and she keeps the household going without complaint. Her old love Hiroshi (Ken Uehara) comes back from France, and her younger sister Mariko (Hideko Takamine) sets about bringing the two of them together, though she carries a feeling for Hiroshi of her own. Yasujirō Ozu holds on Setsuko's quiet, level face while she keeps what she wants to herself.
