The Murderer Lives at Number 21

(1942)Directed by Henri-Georges Clouzot83 minComedy, Mystery, Thriller

A killer in Paris signs his work with a calling card as Monsieur Durand, and he seems to turn up in every part of the city at once. Commissaire Wens (Pierre Fresnay) and the aspiring singer Mila Malou (Suzy Delair) follow the clues to a seedy boarding house, where Wens expects to find him. Henri-Georges Clouzot, in his first feature, fills the rooms of Number 21 with lodgers who each might be Durand, and Wens sits among them, watching.
