The Music Man

(1962)Directed by Morton DaCosta151 min · GComedy, Family, Music, Romance
“The story of that man and his 76 trombones, and the wonderful, wonderful tune he played on every heart in town!”

Harold Hill (Robert Preston) is a traveling salesman who sells boys' marching bands to small towns, collects the money up front, and leaves before anyone learns he can't read a note of music. In River City, Iowa, in 1912, he sets his sights on Marian Paroo (Shirley Jones), the librarian who sees through him. Morton DaCosta's film is built on one idea: a town hungry for a band and a parade will pay for the promise.
