Tania Fedorova (Greta Garbo) is a Russian spy who needs the secret plans held by Captain Karl von Raden (Conrad Nagel), an Austrian military officer. She goes after him with seduction, and the silent film gives Garbo long stretches of glances and slow turns to do it with. Fred Niblo puts both of them in danger once she begins to care for the man she was sent to use.
