The Naked and the Dead

(1958)Directed by Raoul Walsh131 minDrama, War
“Youth and love and wartime-- the best-seller that electrified seven million readers!”

A platoon of American soldiers is sent up a Pacific island in World War II, and the patrol is only beginning when the men start measuring one another. Sam Croft (Aldo Ray), the hard sergeant who leads them, is set against Robert Hearn (Cliff Robertson), a lieutenant who answers to General Cummings (Raymond Massey). Raoul Walsh builds the film around the two men, one who gives orders by force and one who cannot stomach them.
