Christopher Leiningen (Charlton Heston) runs a cocoa plantation in the South American jungle and answers to no one. His new wife Joanna (Eleanor Parker) arrives to find a stranger and a house run by his rules. Byron Haskin sets their cold, wary marriage against a column of army ants two miles wide and twenty miles long, moving closer to the plantation.
