“Her child would change the world.”

In Nazareth under Herod's rule, Mary (Keisha Castle-Hughes) is a young girl promised to Joseph (Oscar Isaac), a carpenter she barely knows. Catherine Hardwicke follows the two of them on the long walk to Bethlehem, over rough country, toward a quiet manger in a small village. Mary and Joseph begin as near strangers, and the road gives them only each other to lean on.
