Dexter Broadhurst (Bud Abbott) is a ham actor on a Mississippi riverboat in the gay '90s, and his bumbling sidekick Sebastian Dinwiddle (Lou Costello) goes wherever the schemes go. When cardsharps take the boat from kindly Capt. Sam Jackson (Henry Travers) and turn the showboat into a floating gambling house, Jean Yarbrough sets the two men to work on a way to win it back. If they fail, the captain loses his vessel for good.
