The Northerners
Jacob (Jack Wouterse) and his neighbors live on a single street in a new Dutch town in the 1960s. Each of them is chasing a private obsession or a frustrated desire. Alex van Warmerdam writes them as a run of small eccentrics, and the film treats their longings as ordinary. Everyone here wants a love or a pleasure they can't ask for, and the street is too small to hide it.
