“Did she...or did she?”

Bill Gridley (Jack Lemmon), a junior American diplomat newly posted to London, wants nothing more than a quiet place to live, and he finds a bargain room in a house owned by Carly Hardwicke (Kim Novak). Then he learns that Scotland Yard suspects her of murdering her husband, and he goes on falling for her anyway. Richard Quine plays it for laughs, and Lionel Jeffries as Inspector Oliphant keeps turning up at the door.
