The Nun
Suzanne Simonin (Pauline Étienne) is a young woman whose parents cannot afford the dowry for a marriage fitting her rank, so they send her to a convent against her will. Guillaume Nicloux adapts Diderot's 18th-century novel, with Suzanne telling her suffering in letters, first under a kind Mother Superior and then under a new Abbess (Isabelle Huppert) and the other Sisters. Her desire for freedom stays unabated as the years pass inside the walls.
