Sherman Klump (Eddie Murphy), an overweight chemistry professor, drinks an experimental serum he has concocted and transforms into Buddy Love (Eddie Murphy), a sleek, sharp-tongued ladies' man. Sherman wants to win over his student Carla Purty (Jada Pinkett Smith), but Buddy has his own plans. Tom Shadyac shoots the transformations and the chaos that follows with pratfalls and quick cuts, turning the split into pure visual momentum.
