The Old Gun

Julien Dandieu (Philippe Noiret), a surgeon in Montauban in 1944, sends his wife Clara (Romy Schneider) and their daughter to the family's old castle in the country, driven there by his friend François (Jean Bouise). A week later he drives out to join them for the weekend, only to find German soldiers already holding the village. Robert Enrico keeps his camera close on Noiret's face as the surgeon walks toward a place that has gone silent.
