The Olive Tree

“Never lose touch with your roots.”

Alma (Anna Castillo) is a young woman in Castellón whose family once pressed olive oil for generations and now raises poultry to cover its debts. Her grandfather has stopped speaking and stopped eating since the thousand-year-old tree was uprooted and sold, and Alma sets out to find it. Icíar Bollaín shows how a family can sell off the oldest thing it owns and then spend years paying for the silence that follows.
