The Opening Act

“To get to the top, you have to start at the bottom.”

In the comedy clubs where open-mic nights run late and the crowds are small, Will Chu (Jimmy O. Yang) works the stage whenever he can, because stand-up is what he actually wants to do. Then he gets the chance to emcee a show opening for his hero, Billy G. (Cedric the Entertainer). Steve Byrne, making his directorial debut, writes it around a plain choice: keep the life Will has already built, or give a stage the rest of it.
