Detective Allen Gamble (Will Ferrell) is a forensic accountant stuck at a desk while his partner Terry Hoitz (Mark Wahlberg) seethes over desk duty too. When two legends on the force die, Gamble and Hoitz see their chance to work a real case and prove themselves to Captain Gene Mauch (Michael Keaton). McKay sends them careening through Manhattan until at last they stand in an empty conference room, the numbers on the screen telling a story nobody wanted to find.
