The Outlaw

(1943)Directed by Howard Hughes116 minWestern, Drama
“Tall.... Terrific.... and Trouble!”

Pat Garrett (Thomas Mitchell), newly made sheriff of Lincoln, New Mexico, is glad when his old friend Doc Holliday (Walter Huston) steps off the stage. Doc is chasing a stolen horse, and he finds it under Billy the Kid (Jack Buetel), yet the two men end up friends, which leaves Pat shut out. Howard Hughes builds the story on that old loyalty going cold while a new one forms.
