The Outrage

(1964)Directed by Martin Ritt96 minDrama, Crime, Western
“Was It an Act of Violence or an Act of Love?”

At a disused railway station, a con man (Edward G. Robinson), a preacher (William Shatner) and a prospector sit out the wait by going over a trial they just watched. The outlaw Juan Carrasco (Paul Newman) has been sentenced for killing a man and assaulting his wife (Claire Bloom), but each witness tells it differently. Martin Ritt stages the same afternoon again and again, once for every account, and lets the differences pile up between versions.
