The Paleface

(1948)Directed by Norman Z. McLeod91 minComedy, Western
“Like Merry Xmas and Happy New Year...They belong together!”

Somebody keeps shooting in a frontier town where the only visible gunslinger is a dentist who would rather be anywhere else. 'Painless' Peter Potter (Bob Hope) ends up beside Calamity Jane (Jane Russell), who fights off outlaws and Indians while he fumbles with a pistol. Norman Z. McLeod sets the two side by side, her fearless and him meek, and Hope sings "Buttons and Bows" along the way.
