“Love is fickle! Love is blind! She runs 'round the country...with him behind!”

Gerry Jeffers (Claudette Colbert) loves her husband, an inventor named Tom (Joel McCrea) who needs cash to build his big idea. Her plan is to divorce him, head for Florida, and marry a rich man who can pay for it. Preston Sturges sends her toward Palm Beach and the eccentric millionaire John D. Hackensacker III (Rudy Vallee), while Tom stays the one person she can't talk herself out of.
