“As American as apple pie.”

In the mid-1970s, a senator is shot dead at a public event, and the official report closes the case quickly. Alan J. Pakula follows Joseph Frady (Warren Beatty), a stubborn reporter who starts asking questions, and Lee Carter (Paula Prentiss), a colleague who warns him to stop. The film is about how a company can sell political killing as a service, and how easily that stays out of sight.
