(1969)Directed by Ingmar Bergman101 min · RDrama
“Man is the king of beasts...”

Andreas Winkelman (Max von Sydow), recently divorced, has retreated to a small house on an island, where a widow named Anna Fromm (Liv Ullmann) comes to his door to use the phone. They begin an affair, and she moves into his life with a limp and a past she hands over a little at a time. Bergman shoots the two of them in close, unsparing faces, and Andreas keeps believing this time he will not lose someone.
