The Passion of the Christ

“By his wounds, we were healed.”

Jesus (Jim Caviezel) wants to finish what he came to do, and the film gives him only his last twelve hours to do it. Mel Gibson follows him from the arrest through the trial to the crucifixion, staying close to the gospels and to the visions of Anne Catherine Emmerich. Throughout, his mother Maria (Maia Morgenstern) stays near enough to see everything, and what passes between them is mostly looks.
