The Path of Hope

In 1950s Sicily, the sulfur mine that employed a village of miners has shut down, leaving the men and their families with no work. Pietro Germi follows a group of them, led by Saro Cammarata (Raf Vallone) and joined by Barbara Spadaro (Elena Varzi), as they decide to cross the border into France illegally. Women and children walk beside the men, and the road ahead is a stretch of ground nobody in the group has ever seen.
