The Pearl

“Steinbeck's most talked-about story!”

Nobody in the fishing village can say why the biggest pearl ever pulled from the gulf feels less like luck than a warning. Quino (Pedro Armendáriz) found it while his infant son lay sick from a scorpion's sting, after the town's foreign doctor turned the family away. Emilio Fernández follows Quino and Juana (María Elena Marqués), who wants the pearl thrown back, while he sees only a way out of poverty.
