The Perez Family

“On the way to finding a family, she found love.”

Why does an immigration clerk write Juan Raul Perez (Alfred Molina) and Dorita Evita Perez (Marisa Tomei) down as husband and wife? A shared last name is all it takes, and during the Mariel boat lift two strangers who both want to reach America decide to go along with it. Mira Nair follows the pair as a stranger's mistake becomes a household, with Juan's wife Carmela (Anjelica Huston) still waiting somewhere ahead.
