The Phenom opens on a young pitcher's season going wrong, with a fastball that has stopped going where he sends it. Hopper Gibson (Johnny Simmons) is a rookie, and his team sends him to a sports psychologist, Dr. Mobley (Paul Giamatti), to talk through the yips. Noah Buschel keeps the sessions close and quiet, and Hopper's whole career depends on whether anything said in that room can steady his arm.
