The Pianist

“Music was his passion. Survival was his masterpiece.”

Władysław Szpilman (Adrien Brody) is playing piano on Polish radio in Warsaw when the Nazi occupation begins, and soon the city's Jews are herded into a ghetto. He finds work in a café, then loses his family to the 1942 deportations while he alone remains behind. Roman Polanski follows him into hiding among the ruins, where Szpilman, thin and alone, moves from one empty room to the next.
