The Piano Lesson

“Blood is a chord that resonates through time.”

Boy Willie (John David Washington) returns to his family home in Pittsburgh with a plan to sell an heirloom piano, but his sister Berniece (Danielle Deadwyler) refuses. The piano carries the carved faces of their ancestors, a memorial to the family's enslaved past. Malcolm Washington adapts August Wilson's play by letting the argument unfold in a single room, where voices pile up and the weight of history presses down on every word.
