The Pied Piper
The town of Hamelin is an old German settlement of crowded rooftops and sharp gables, and its people have grown fat on their own greed. A plague of rats moves in to punish them. Jiří Barta animates the whole thing in stop-motion, using wooden figures and an invented language in place of dialogue, and the film played in Un Certain Regard at Cannes in 1986.
